Patrick Mahomes & Travis Kelce Pair Up Again to Face the “Splash Brothers”, Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson, for a Blockbuster Game of Golf

This year’s iteration of ‘Capital One’s The Match’ is finally here, and some very big names are facing off against each other. In a way, this year’s lineup looks like a battle of champions, as Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce face off against the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in this 12-hole showdown.

This is the second time Mahomes and Curry are featuring in the star-studded golf matchup, though it is the first time they face each other. Both Kelce and Thompson are making their debut and will be hoping to help their partners secure their first-ever win in this series. This is Chiefs vs Warriors, NFL vs NBA, Football vs Basketball, in a game of golf. Can the stakes be any higher?

Patrick Mahomes and Stephen Curry both lost during their debut appearance

Patrick Mahomes paired up with Bills QB Josh Allen as they for his debut as they faced NFL legends Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers last year. Stephen Curry, on the other hand, teamed up with Peyton Manning back in 2020. against professional golfer Phil Mickelson and NBA legend Charles Barkley. The only thing Mahomes and Curry have in common from their debuts is that they both lost.

Which is why both of them will be eager to win this matchup. Especially since they’ve got their magical partners by their side once again. Mahomes and Kelce, who led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win last season, recorded 496 passes for a stunning 6,319 yards, and 48 touchdowns. While the “Splash Brothers” rocked the NBA with more than 5,600 career 3-pointers.

‘The Match’ against Curry will be a welcome distraction for Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes is not having the best of times right now, and this announcement would have been a welcome distraction for him. His brother, Jackson Mahomes, was arrested only recently on charges of aggravated sexual battery and was released on a $100k bond. If Jackson does get convicted, he could face jail time of up to 55 months. Which, right now, seems very plausible, even though he denies the accusations.

Patrick, for one, could very well do without all these distractions. Fans know how problems outside the field can affect a player’s performance on the gridiron. Just ask Tom Brady, who had a horrible season owing to a lot of personal problems. That is something Patrick and the Chiefs would want to avoid, given that they have a real chance of defending their Super Bowl title this year.
