"Way Too Sensitive For Football": Going Off on Reporter Leaves WR Michael Thomas on the Wrong Side of Fans

The Saints receiver Michael Thomas is expected to be released by the Saints after another injury-plagued season. Last season, he appeared in only 10 games and finished the season with only 39 receptions for 448 yards. The wideout who got into legal trouble in 2023 by getting into an altercation with a construction worker, has landed himself into another pickle, this time on social media.

Thomas went off on the Saints reporter and columnist for NOLA, Jeff Duncan, who wrote a column that the Saints will soon release Michael Thomas. Thomas seemed unpleased by the report about his possible departure from the club for whom he has played since 2016 and fired shots at the reporter for writing false stories just for clicks.

The Saints wideout in a series of tweets on X blasted Duncan for being a New Orleans puppet. In a first tweet, he stated that it’s impossible for the team to release a player that was already on a year-long contract and people shouldn’t believe anything that Duncan writes. In his second post, he stated that the NOLA columnist would do anything for views so he could stay in the limelight.

Michael in another tweet called him a clown who doesn’t understand anything about football and it’s hard to believe that people actually read what he writes. Fans didn’t like this color on Thomas and called him for going off on the reporter. They feel the Saints wideout should not attack the journalist for doing his job.

Michael Thomas Rant Receives Strong Reactions from Fans

Thomas’s viral tweets triggered strong reactions from fans who called him out for lacking the toughness to survive in the NFL business. He has consistently been too emotional, and it won’t be long before he finds himself out of the league for good, per fans. On the other hand, some argued that Thomas shouldn’t have blasted the reporter, emphasizing that the reporter was merely doing his job for which he gets paid – unlike the Saints receiver. It’s not hard to see why the franchise isn’t keen on extending his contract.

In a humorous tone, someone joked that due to his history with injuries, Michael Thomas might have injured himself while writing so much. Others pointed out that Duncan didn’t write anything incorrect, highlighting that Thomas hasn’t been the same player the Saints signed in 2016. Fans said,

While the Saints have a history of handling things in a less-than-ideal manner, this doesn’t alter the reality that professional athletes and the media often have a rocky relationship. But fans don’t seem happy with the way Michael Thomas reacted to the whole situation. Would ignoring the report entirely have been a better option for the WR or could he have responded in a more classy way?
