Justin Jefferson

The Vikings drafted LSU WR Justin Jefferson in the 1st round of the draft last year and was a force ever since he stepped on the field. Jefferson and QB Kirk Cousins were one of the NFL’s most dynamic quarterback-wide receiver duos last season. But despite that, Jefferson wasn’t surprised with the possibility of having another QB on the team.

Justin Fields was arguably the 2nd best QB on many draft boards. So when he fell out of the top 10 of the draft, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if the Vikings had drafted the Ohio State Alum with the 14th overall pick. However, after he was drafted by the Chicago Bears, the Vikings traded down to No. 23 and drafted OT Christian Darrisaw.

Justin Jefferson wouldn’t have been surprised if Fields had ended up going to the Minnesota Vikings

Jefferson said he was not surprised when he heard the rumours that the Vikings were interested in Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, had he been available to them in the draft.

“No,” Jefferson said, indicating his lack of surprise. “We have to build on for after Kirk, or whatever the case may be. Having Justin Fields brings a little bit more pressure to other teams by having a dominant quarterback like he is.”

Justin Jefferson had an interesting comparison between Joe Burrow and Kirk Cousins

Justin Jefferson announced himself on the national stage when he had QB Joe Burrow throwing him dimes during the 2019 College Football season. Burrow ended up getting drafted 1st overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. And both Burrow and Jefferson had very impressive rookie seasons.

In an interview with Colin Cowherd, Jefferson was asked to compare the two quarterbacks.

“Kirk and Joe throw similar balls. They’re not the strongest arm, but they’re gonna get it to you exactly where you need it,” Jefferson said. “The thing about Joe that’s a little bit different, I feel like Joe has a little bit more swagger. He has that confidence on the field. He’s not scared to get hit, and I feel like as a quarterback, that’s a big trait to have — especially to be as young as he is. He’s a phenomenal quarterback.”

Kirk Cousins accounts for a large amount of the cap for the next 2 years thanks to the two-year, fully-guaranteed $66 million extension he signed with the Vikings in 2020. So the Cousins era will probably be around for a little more time. So it will be very interesting to see how the QB-WR duo will do in 2021.
