Every year, the NFL draft comes with a handful of surprises, and the trend was followed this year too. Kentucky product Will Levis received his first big blow on the first day of the NFL draft in 2023. He was expected to find a spot on day one under the top 15 picks, but he got robbed by another counterpart, Anthony Richardson, and slid his chances to the second round. NFL analyst Colin Cowherd gave a closer look into the entire situation and claimed the passer’s attitude made all the difference.

Statistically speaking, Will Levis is much more experienced and possesses great skills compared to Richardson. But the Colts bet their fourth overall pick on a newbie and a young talent. In fact, it turned out to be a big surprise, and Cowherd claimed that he saw it coming because Levis lacked the attitude to reign on the top.

Cowherd emphasized the art of being humble and explained the importance of this attitude on a bigger platform. He gave some apt examples from the NFL arena to justify this notion. Cowherd mentioned that players like Patrick Mahomes are down to earth and never show their cockiness in the public domain.
Similarly, legends like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are extremely humble given their level of success and accomplishments in the league. “Will Levis likes Will Levis. I figured he didn’t go four because he was just less raw,” Cowherd said in his recent episode.
“He could step in and within some time play, I don’t think Anthony Richardson plays it all or much in year one, but Indianapolis was willing to forgo that their GM said don’t put a lot of expectations on him. Being humble, being gracious. be coachable. Even as a star athlete matters a lot if you need fixing,” he added, emphasizing Levis’ behavior off the field. According to him, players like Baker Mayfield, Jay Cutler, and Kyler Murray are some of those who fall under this category.
Levis never wanted to get picked in round 2
The twist of fate cannot be underestimated, and who knows better than the Kentucky star when his world turns upside down? Last month, while speaking in an interview (per SI), the 23-year-old mentioned that he would never attend a draft ceremony if he got dragged into round two because cameras would constantly pan at him.

Levis was shown on TV in the green room 37 times throughout the first round.
That was 29 times more than anyone else.

Ultimately, the 2023 NFL draft became the worst nightmare of his life after a disappointing day one and getting selected in the second round as the No. 33 overall pick. It will be interesting to see if things change for him in the foreseeable future.
