Mike White

There is a big question if Mike White will be able to play in Thursday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars or not. Although head coach Robert Saleh was hesitant to name a quarterback for the game in the evening, early indications suggest that White will sit out another week.

Mike White, the quarterback for the New York Jets, is still dealing with rib pain from the team’s recent loss to the Buffalo Bills as we enter Week 16. This past Sunday’s Week 15 loss to the Detroit Lions saw the veteran journeyman out injured, returning Zach Wilson to the starting lineup.

Prior to their Week 16 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, White was listed as a limited participant in practice on Monday. The Jets only practiced on Monday because the game was on Thursday.

Mike White injury update

Mike White hasn’t been cleared for contact, so Zach Wilson will start Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Tuesday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It sounded like coach Robert Saleh had little choice when he made the announcement on Tuesday. According to Saleh, doctors did not clear Mike White, who missed Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions due to rib fractures that occurred nine days ago.

White is still expected to play in the final two games; Saleh described it as “a week-to-week evaluation.” According to ESPN analytics, the Jets (7-7) have dropped three straight games and only have a 13% chance of making the playoffs.

Their standing will probably have an effect on the quarterback selection for the following week. If they are still in the running and White is permitted to make contact, it would pave the way for a crucial choice.

In Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions, Wilson completed 18 of his 35 passes for 317 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
