"Wonder where Ja Morant Was": Internet Sleuths Go Bonkers After Deshaun Watson's Teammates Get Robbed on Gunpoint

Deshaun Watson’s teammates Greg Newsome II and Perrion Winfrey were robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning, and the internet couldn’t help but make some dark jokes, connecting the incident to Ja Morant. Police reports indicate that Newsome and Winfrey were leaving a nightclub when six masked men jumped out and robbed the two players. They stole jewelry and fled with Newsome’s pickup truck. The Browns cornerback was distraught by the incident and posted as such on Twitter.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski commented on the situation too, “I’m glad our guys are OK. … We want everybody to be safe and we want to get violent people off of our streets.” Additionally, Newsome wasn’t the first Browns player to have their vehicle stolen as Browns second-string running back Demetric Felton had his car stolen from his apartment’s garage. It marks a scary time for Browns’ players, but they will be glad that everyone is okay and safe given the situation.

Fans make insensitive jokes regarding Ja Morant and Deshaun Watson’s teammates

Guns are always a sensitive issue to talk about, especially in the United States where there’s so much controversy on gun laws and gun violence. Incredibly, nothing happened to Newsome and Winfrey as the situation could have gotten out of hand very quickly.

Recently, the NBA has had to deal with one of its superstars showcasing a gun on social media. Ja Morant has recently come under fire from the NBA as he was seen flashing a gun on his Instagram live story. There’s a big suspension coming as the incident marked the second time Morant had a gun out on his social media.

The incident is heartbreaking, and hopefully, Ja Morant is getting all the help he needs to recover and come back stronger from the incident. He has made some mistakes, but with the offseason in full swing, Morant has plenty of time to get his head back in the game and compete once more.

Unfortunately, some have taken the events as an opportunity to make fun of and beat down on Ja. After the Browns’ teammates were robbed, some internet trolls made some very dark jokes about the incident.

Unfortunately, the level of jokes has come to this. Personal shots aren’t always necessary, especially when it’s as deep and sensitive as gun violence. In such a time, all we can do is hope for the safety and well-being of everyone involved. Bringing Ja into a situation in which he has nothing to do with is extremely out of pocket.

Deshaun Watson and his teammates will hope to rebound quickly as the NFL offseason goes on

It’s unfortunate what happened to Newsome and Winfrey, but as Newsome pointed out, it’s a cruel world. The two players will soon have to get back to the reality of their jobs and start working hard to get in shape for the NFL season.

Deshaun Watson struggled in his first year with the Browns, coming off a suspension for his s*xual harassment claims, but he has looked good in the offseason, and with a lot more time to build a connection with his teammates, he could come out swinging once more.
