“You don’t have to be an a**hole” : Erin Andrews comes down on fellow reporters for acting rude towards players
Erin Andrews is one of the most iconic sideline reporters of our time. Her way of asking questions has made her a favorite among fans and players both. However, it seems she might not the favorite within the reporter’s pool anymore. This speculation comes in the wake of her rant about reporters being rude toward players, and not treating them well enough.
On her podcast with Charlotte Thompson called ‘Calm Down with Erin and Charissa’, she speaks at length about what she has witnessed all year long. She says, “You don’t have to be an a–hole. How about this? Stop worrying about trying to make a name for yourself. Or be clickbait with these questions that tie these guys down. Or put them in a bind, or you want to be the person in the press conference. Don’t do that.”

Having interacted with players on a much personal level through her sideline interview, she is angry that other reporters do not treat them respectfully enough. “They’re not animals. They’re not pieces of meat. They are human. And I am just so frustrated with some of the s–t I’m seeing. I know they want to kind of stick out. You stick out in a really bad way when you treat these guys like s–t,” she says.

Erin Andrews blasts fellow reporters over insensitive approach to players
The most obvious incident that comes to mind after listening to Erin Andrew’s rant, is the “Media vs Giovanni Bernard” episode from last month. After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, reporters Jenna Laine and Greg Auman decided to charge the locker room and catch Bucs’ running back Giovanni Bernard off guard.
Bernard wasn’t happy about the situation either, especially after having missed a crucial play in the game. However, what angered him more was the rude posturing of the reporters. The answers he gave were filled with rage, but he was able to maintain his composure. Later, when Laine posted the video on her Twitter, she received immense backlash for her antics and had to apologize to Bernard.
Media is definitely a crucial player in the modern world, especially in the NFL. Naturally, any reporter covering a game would want their name to be the highlight of the evening. It is only natural that they want to succeed. However, like Andrews says, pushing players to uncomfortable limits is not the way to get yourself popular. Instead, it could have far-reaching consequences.
With the NFL community now ever so vocal about players being treated badly, reporters will have to keep themselves in check. A single bad move could tempt fans to “cancel” them, and they might not have much of a career after that. Safe to say, Erin Andrews will definitely not have a shortage of players lining up to be interviewed by her anytime soon.
