YouTube TV NFL Sunday Ticket Price: From $249 to $489 per Season, Streaming Giant’s “Tier-Based” Pricing Comes With a Twist
YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket prices are finally here. Ever since the Google subsidiary acquired the rights to Sunday Ticket, there has been a lot of speculation about how the video streaming platform would bring content to the public. All those who were part of that speculation will be thoroughly disappointed, as YouTube has resorted to broadcasting games as any other distributor would, but at a costlier rate.
Before YouTube, DirecTV used to own the rights to Sunday Ticket. In 2022, DirecTV charged its customers $300 for the Sunday Ticket. Added to that, they charged an extra $100 for RedZone. Which shows live possessions from all games, when any team is within 20 yards of the end zone. Though the price difference is not that great this year, it is set to rise in the coming months.
YouTube reveals multi-tiered pricing list for NFL Sunday Ticket and Redzone
While DirecTV had only two package options for its customers, YouTube has rolled out 4 different options, one more expensive than the other. The difference? It costs less if you are a YoutTube TV subscriber. For Youtube TV subscribers, NFL Sunday Ticket will cost $349, with an extra $40 for RedZone. The rest have to pay $449, plus an added $40 for RedZone. There’s a $100 off too if bought before June 6.
One of the biggest hopes fans had was that YouTube would roll out single-game purchases, and offer in-market games as well. However, it doesn’t seem like the platform is eager to pursue such an avenue. Though, it is being said that YouTube and the NFL are jointly discussing new package types that could potentially hit the market down the road.
YouTube’s reputation as a streaming service will get a boost with this venture
In a world where traditional TV is slowly losing its grip on people, streaming services are expanding at a fast rate. Trying to take advantage of the situation like many others, is YouTube. Now, with the addition of NFL Sunday Ticket to their portfolio, they will undoubtedly start becoming the streaming service of choice for NFL fans in America and abroad.
However, the above-average pricing that YouTube brings could also potentially drive down numbers for them. Especially when network channels are giving out cheaper prices. This could potentially give networks, that have been constantly losing viewers, a lifeline. Only time will tell the impact of this new development. Is NFL broadcasting set to change forever?
