Jamie Vardy Breaks Corner Flag : The Leicester City striker managed to pull off the three points for his side at the tailend of their fixture.
Failing to breach Sheffield United’s gusty and gritty defending, it looked like Leicester City’s dreary run would extend to three successive matches without a win. However, striker Jamie Vardy had other plans on the day as he latched onto a James Maddison assist to race his side into the lead right before the final whistle.
Jamie Vardy Blows Corner Flag Apart With Two Footed Celebration
Ecstatic after his late strike all but sealed the three points for Leicester City on the day, Jamie Vardy raced towards the corner flag before sliding into it and going onto subsequently destroy it. His two footed sliding celebration into the corner flag saw the corner flag decked in rainbow colors being torn apart to pieces.
Vardy who was shown a yellow card for the delirious celebration by Stuart Atwell was hailed as a hero by many for blowing apart the rainbow corner flag. The Premier League which is celebrating LGBT rights this gameweek has used the rainbow flag to show the league’s solidarity with the movement.
Vardy who had previously played for Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United’s old rivals is meanwhile bound to have been unperturbed by the yellow card.
The 2-1 win on the night for Leicester City saw them consolidate their fourth place in the league and with it also wrench out of a two match losing spree. The goal was Vardy’s 8th strike away from home this season with the striker restoring his side’s lead after an Oliver McBurnie strike had restored parity for the hosts in the first half.
Sheffield United who had done well to hang onto a point for a majority of the encounter were left ruing the manner in which they let in a late goal. The defeat further hammered them down into bottom spot with the club yet to record a win this season.
