Neymar is currently looking to extend his contract with Paris Saint Germain according to his father.
A young boy from Brazil had the chance to represent Barcelona or Real Madrid at the age of 20, but the Blaugrana were the side to win the race for the Brazilian in 2013. He formed a formidable partnership with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in the front line and lifted major trophies including La Liga, Copa Del Rey, and Champions League during his stint at Nou Camp.
The forward made 186 appearances for the club in four years, scoring 105 goals and assisting another 76 to his teammates in the process. Deciding to stay out of Lionel Messi’s shadow, he made a 223 million euros deal to Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2017. Despite winning league titles on a trot, it has been a disappointment in the Champions League for the French outfit.
There have been several reports quoting that the Brazilian has been looking to move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future. Lionel Messi spoke about the possibility of his return to Nou Camp, whilst Casemiro has been vocal about his intentions to lure Neymar to Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite all these claims, Neymar’s father claims that they are looking to extend his contract with PSG, thereby keeping a full-stop for a potential move to Spain again.
“People say that Neymar always is on the transfer market and linked to a big club. This means it’s good management because he is among the names… But this does not mean he is going to go to one club or another. His names has been linked since he was 17 years of age.”
“He has had two transfers in his life but we have ten years worth of speculation. The probability of him leave is not big. It’s his second year, he has three more and we are talking about a renewal with PSG.” Neymar’s father said to the Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte.
He has claimed that Neymar is happy with things at Paris and has left the rest to his him who will make sure about his moves in the future.
“We are happy with Neymar’s career up until now. He can’t finish his career feeling unhappy, having done what others think he should do and not doing what he thought he should do. Neymar is Neymar. Tomorrow other players will be compared with him. Just like Pele inspired some players like Zico, Romario, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo…Neymar will inspire other players.”
“My job as agent is to plan for him. Neymar didn’t have time to study to be a doctor, lawyer or journalist. He is a footballer. Our challenge is to make a career plan for him so when he stops playing he can have peace living his life…”
Neymar has been criticized for going down easily in recent times. Neymar’s father says that he goes down because the referee does not stop the game which leads to injury.
“(Against Strasbourg when Neymar injured his ankle again) People asked him to stay on his feet and he stayed on his feet. Once, twice, three times…and the referee didn’t whistle a foul. The referee didn’t stop it, he did nothing. What can you say? It happened until he got injured. If he stays on his feet, he gets injured. It’s better that Neymar continued being Neymar.” added Neymar’s father.

What’s next?
With this statement from Neymar Senior, it is inevitable that the Brazilian is pushing to sign a new contract as his deal expires in 2022. If he wants to leave, the French outfit will seek no lesser than 250 million euros.
