Rafael Nadal becomes emotional after reaching the US Open final

Rafael Nadal has made his way in to final of the US Open, after beating Juan Martin Del Potro 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 in the semi final earlier today.

The Spaniard lost the first set, but made a strong come back to beat the experienced Del Potro. After the match, Nadal became emotional as he mentioned how 2017 was a very emotional year for him.

“A lot.”

“It has been an amazing season after a couple of years with some troubles, injuries, tough moments.

“This year, since the beginning, has been an emotional year. It means everything for me to be back here in front of this crowd and playing for the US Open title.”

“It’s almost impossible but here we are,” Nadal said. “I do a lot of good work with my team. We believe in what we are doing. I still have the passion and the love for this game.”

Nadal was also quick to praise his opponent in Sunday’s final, Kevin Anderson. Nadal knows the South African from his childhood says, which is why the final will be extra special between the two friends.

“He’s a huge player with an unbelievable serve,” Nadal said. “He plays unbelievable on this surface. He’s able to play his best tennis in his career right now.”

“It’s going to be a tough one. I need to be playing at my best. I need to play at full energy and full motivation if I’m going to have my chances.”

Nadal, who lost the Australian Open final to Federer this year, won his 10th French Open and 15th career Grand Slam a few months ago.

Nadal will be hoping to make it number 16 this Sunday!
