His quarter final victory meant that there was a real possibility that he would once again face his long term rival Roger Federer in the semi final.
When asked about his thoughts on the legendary Swiss, Nadal gave a hilarious reply in which brought the house down at the press conference.
“I don’t want to look like I’m going to be his boyfriend, no?” Nadal said as the entire press gallery burst into laughter.
“We don’t want to talk these kind of things before (an) important match.”
Surprisingly, Federer lost to Del Porto as the Swiss tasted his first defeat in 19 grand slam matches this year.
Had Federer reached the semi finals, he would have faced Nadal for the first time at the US Open.
Let’s hope we get to see Fedal next year!
