The dream continues for Ramakumar Ramanathan. A name unheard of in the international tennis circuit immediately shot to limelight when he beat world number 8 Domnic Thiem in the Antalya Open. Ever since that upset, Ramanathan has been on his way up, building a strong foundation for himself in the ATP circuit.
Ramanthan featured in the Cincinnati Open last week, registering his first win at any ATP 1000 masters event, beating USA’s Christopher Eubanks in three gruelling sets of tennis.
The win meant that Ramanathan climbed 24 spots in the recently released rankings, to become India’s highest ranked singles player(156). Yuki Bhambri, who recently beat Gael Monfils is ranked 158 in the world.
Both Ramanathan and Bhambri will feature in the qualifying rounds of the US Open, and will be hoping that their strong showing in the US Hard court series could help them muster a place for themselves in the main draw of the US Open.
The Indian duo would be hoping to secure a berth for themselves in the US Open main draw, and going by the form they are in, it seems like we could be in for two Indian male players in the main draw of the US Open.
The US Open is scheduled to start on the 28th of August.
