Real Madrid News: Zinedine Zidane refutes rumours of his resignation and says the Mourinho links do not bother him

Real Madrid News: Zinedine Zidane refutes rumours of his resignation and says the Mourinho links do not bother him amidst mounting pressure.

Zinedine Zidane arguably had the best start to his managerial career. Not only did he go on to lead Real Madrid to Champions League glory but he did it 3 times consecutively! He had suddenly become indispensable to the club in a way that none of his predecessors had.

However, much has changed since he left and came back. Real Madrid have become a shadow of themselves. Not only did they crash out of the Champions League round of 16, they never looked like a threat to Barcelona’s march to a consecutive La Liga.

Real Madrid sent an SOS to Zidane after running through 2 managers in the meantime. However, Zidane’s return to the Bernabeu has been much less heroic than the last time. Tasked with the responsibility of leading Real Madrid to its lost glory, the Frenchman has so far failed to impress.

The club was out of sorts in the pre-season and have been very ordinary in the La Liga before succumbing to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League this week. Rumours have run amuck about Zidane’s job security and how Jose Mourinho poses a threat to the seat he currently owns.

I will not back down!

Per Calciomercato, Zinedine Zidane has now made public his opinion on his future and the action he plans to take.

“We play against the league leaders, we must win. There is nothing else. I know the difficulties of being at Real Madrid, we cannot fail two games. We have already done so in Paris.”

When quizzed on the possibility of him quitting, Zidane said:

“I’m not thinking about leaving. I’m only thinking of winning tomorrow. The difficulties that they speak of on the outside are something we can’t control.

“I made the decision to come back because I liked the look of the new project. Now I am here, I will try. We have to be together to achieve our objectives.”

When asked specifically about Mourinho, the Frenchman answered:

“It doesn’t bother me to hear about Mourinho; it is what it is. Here, you lose one game and you have to change everything.”
