Sebastian Vettel was a happy man after qualifying in Montreal, holding his index finger out for the crowd and soaking in the applause as he managed to get pole position for Ferrari for the first time since 2001 in Montreal.
With him on the front row will Valtteri Bottas who managed to outpace his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who will start tomorrow’s race from P4.
Both Bottas and Vettel will start tomorrow’s race on the ultrasofts, whereas Ricciardo and Verstappen opted for the hypersofts.
Vettel seemed a little baffled by that strategy as he felt that the hypersofts won’t be a good race tyre in Montreal and thus was clear about using the ultrasofts.
“It was a very smooth session for us.
“We were briefly talking about what we wanted to do, trying to figure everything out.
“For me it was pretty straightforward, and in terms of strategy we did what we wanted to do.
“I don’t think the hypersoft is a good race tyre. I’m a bit surprised that both of the Red Bulls chose that, but I guess they have their reasons.” Vettel said.
Vettel will have to be at his best tomorrow, especially during the early parts of the race where Verstappen could go all out with those overtaking manoeuvres of his.
With a 14 point gap from Hamilton, Vettel would be hoping to convert this pole position into a race win.
Hamilton on the other hand will be banking on his experience and form at Montreal to help him get past the three cars in front of him and take the race win home.
An exciting Sunday lined up for F1 fans.
