Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes: Toto Wolff makes massive claim amidst uncertain Lewis Hamilton and Bottas future

Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes: Toto Wolff has made a surprising claim saying Sebastian Vettel on radar amidst uncertain future of Mercedes drivers.

Sebastian Vettel recently left Ferrari but didn’t announce his new whereabouts, rumours with several teams especially Renault and Mercedes started to fuel amidst the vacant seat in former and drivers’ uncertainty in latter.

But Toto Wolff has given a massive update over their activity with Vettel, according to Mercedes’ team principal, the team is keeping options open on Vettel in case Hamilton or Bottas leave, says Wolff.

“I think we owe it to a four-time world champion not to come out and say straight away ‘no’,” said Wolff in a media conference today. “You need to think about it. On the other side, we have a fantastic line-up and I’m very happy with both our pilots and George [Russell].

“But you never know. One of them may decide that he doesn’t want to go racing any more and suddenly you have a vacant spot and this is why I don’t want to come out in June and say ‘no chance, Sebastian is not racing for us’.

“First of all, I wouldn’t do it to him as a driver, to be that blunt. And, on the other side, I’ve seen black swans appearing where nobody expected. Remember Nico Rosberg.

Meanwhile, Bottas was rumoured to join Renault earlier as Mercedes is looking to part ways with him and might bring in George Russel really soon as he is the ‘heir’ to one of Mercedes’ seats, on the other hand, Hamilton is nearing his retirement.

Thus, earlier which felt like an unlikely event to happen, now seems a possibility with this claim by Wolff. Things will definitely heat up if Vettel and Hamilton are in the same lineup.
