Shikhar Dhawan to play for Delhi Daredevils

Shikhar Dhawan to play for Delhi Daredevils: The Indian opener is all set for a grand homecoming this season.

Shikhar Dhawan, India’s opener in the limited-overs format, will represent Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming season of the IPL (Indian Premier League). Dhawan’s homecoming has eventually finalised after several reports regarding him were doing the round.

Having not retained Dhawan for the last season of the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad had bought him via the right-to-match card for INR 5.2 crore. Apparently, Dhawan was unhappy with his price tag, which led to murmurs of a slight rift between him and the franchise. Playing 91 matches for Sunrisers, Dhawan had scored 2,768 runs at an average of 35.03 and a strike rate of 125.13.

It was earlier said that Dhawan would play for either of Mumbai Indians or Kings XI Punjab. With those deals not seeing the daylight, Dhawan will now play for his home team, a team for which he had made his IPL debut in 2008. In the 14 matches that Dhawan had played for Daredevils back in the years, he had scored 340 runs at an average of 37.77 and a strike rate of 115.25.

Dhawan’s presence will call for a formidable potential top-order comprising of him, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

What has come out as an interesting update of this news is that Daredevils have agreed to release as many as three players for acquiring Dhawan. The players who will play for Hyderabad next year are all-rounder Vijay Shankar (another homecoming), Abhishek Sharma and left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.

With the combined price of these three players summing up to INR 6.85 crore, Sunrisers would need to pay the balance amount in cash.

With the reported deadline of the trading window in November 15 nearing, start expecting more such updates in the days to come. Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore had sold Quinton de Kock to Mumbai Indians while Kings XI had swapped Marcus Stoinis with Mandeep Singh.
