India’s Test wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha said that ‘sledging’ doesn’t come to him just like that because he is much focussed on doing the work quietly.
Saha who has been with MS Dhoni has been a keen observer of MS Dhoni. Saha said that Dhoni doesn’t get involved in sledging stuff as he does what the team requires.
At the same time, Saha thinks that Dhoni is not a fan of sledging. He added saying that he hasn’t seen Dhoni talking to the individual batsman.
Saha said that he is also doing exactly what Dhoni deals with all these things. He just wants to go about his business and carry out things silently similar to MS Dhoni.
“Actually, when I have been with Mahi bhai, I have seen that he also doesn’t sledge. He talks, as the captain he spoke to the players – the bowlers and the fielders – but he didn’t sledge. I don’t think I have ever seen him talk to individual batsmen. I guess that’s how I am too; I try to do my work quietly,” Saha said in an interview with Wisden India.
Virat Kohli is someone who takes inspiration from sledging. But, Saha thinks he hasn’t sledged anywhere in the game of cricket as it doesn’t come naturally to him.
“Also, some batsmen thrive on it; they get motivated when people sledge them. As for me, I don’t think I have ever sledged, anywhere. It doesn’t come naturally to me,” he told.
Saha is full of praise for MS Dhoni as the latter has been phenomenal so far in contributing to the team with grit and determination. “It’s true that if Mahi bhai was still playing Test cricket, the amount he contributed … As a captain, he has won us so many trophies, and as a player, whatever we say is too little,” Saha added.
Saha wants to play the fearless brand of cricket as long as possible. With a good chance left in the cards, he wants to make most of it to good effect.
“Maybe I didn’t get a chance because he was around, maybe I got a chance once in way … but that was fair. Now, my aim is to play for as long as possible.
There are others in the line, and they are doing their best, exactly as I am. I am trying to play for as long as possible, and that’s the challenge,” Saha signed off.
