Solskjaer on game vs Cardiff City: The Manchester United manager was delighted with the side’s 5-1 win against Cardiff City.

Manchester United put five past a hapless Cardiff as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side rolled back the years of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Old Trafford side scored 5 goals in a game for the first time since the farewell game of Sir Alex Ferguson, as Jesse Lingard scored a brace, while Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial were all on target.

With this win, Manchester United are now 8 points behind the fourth-placed Chelsea after the Blues suffered a shocking loss against Leicester City.

After the win, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer interacted with media and talked about the side;s performance.

Solskjaer on game vs Cardiff City:

The Norwegian insisted that the Manchester United squad is full of quality and that the players are fast learners.

“Football is easy if you have good players. They have such quality, it’s unbelievable,” Solskjaer said. “It’s been a tough week for them to be fair, I just told them to be Man United.”


Solskjaer revealed that the Manchester United squad did a session on pattern-play and it worked tremendously for the side as they netted five past Cardiff City.

“I think that’s [work rate] the easiest thing to work on, work rate is free. We had a session on pattern play yesterday and I’m pleased we saw that today.

“Every game gives you different challenges. The foundation was in defending, I thought the centre backs and full backs we absolutely fantastic today.”

Solskjaer praised the quality of the dressing room, but insisted that they will take one game at a time.

“It’s a great dressing room, they have the Man United badge on their shirt for a reason, because they’re quality players.

“We take one game at a time, we’ve caught up 8 or 9 points before but we have to go one game at a time. Let the boys enjoy tonight and then we look forward. There is still work to be done. Me and Mick have come in with some ideas.”

Manchester United’s caretaker manager also revealed that he received a text from former United star Wayne Rooney, who told him to let the players enjoy themselves.

“I arrived on Wednesday night and only had Thursday and Friday with the players.

“Wayne Rooney text me and gave me some advice – so it must be down to him! He told me to make them play football, enjoy themselves and be Manchester United.”

What next?

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Boxing Day as they take on Huddersfield at Old Trafford.
