Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona: Atletico Madrid superstar agrees to join Lionel Messi at Barcelona

Antoine Griezmann has agreed to join Barcelona in the forthcoming window.

Antoine Griezmann turned down an opportunity to join Barcelona following the Europa League success last season. The Atletico Madrid superstar put pen to paper until 2023 following the triumph over Lyon in the finals at France.

He wanted world-class players surrounding him, and Diego Simeone filled the Atletico Madrid attacker’s proclivity by signing Thomas Lemar from Monaco. The 23-year-old has been a fiasco for the Spanish outfit, competing for the worst signing of the season throughout Europe. That was the only marquee signing the club were able to make as Simeone tried to cover other positions.

He wants Atletico Madrid to throw their hat in the ring, but it looks far-fetched as Barcelona and Real Madrid show more purpose in the transfer market. According to the Spanish publication Cadena SER, the 28-year-old has agreed to move to the Catalan club in the summer transfer window.

The reigning Europa League Champions believe that Griezmann has given green light to join Barcelona before the kick start of the next season. The report adds on that the personal meeting will take place next week regarding Griezmann’s possibility of making a move away from Wanda Metropolitano.

With Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho failing to establish themselves in Ernesto Valverde’s plans, the club is looking for a solution to reinforce the starting eleven. £104 million release clause comes into effect on July 1 and the club are looking to sell their record signing Philippe Coutinho, who has struggled to make any kind of an impact following his move from Liverpool last January.

Antoine Griezmann has helped Atletico Madrid finish second in the La Liga this campaign with 15 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick dumped Atletico Madrid’s hopes of lifting their debut Champions League title.

If Barcelona fail to land Griezmann, the Valverde is ready to turn to Alexandre Lacazette, who was Arsenal’s player of the season.
