Solskjaer on Sir Alex Ferguson

Solskjaer on Sir Alex Ferguson: The Man Utd manager has talked about taking consultations from his former boss during his time at the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a bright start to his managerial career at Manchester United. The side registered a 5-1 win against Cardiff City, which was the first time United scored five Premier League goals in a game since Sir Alex’s farewell match in 2013.

Manchester United will return to action this evening as they take on Huddersfield in the Boxing Day fixture. Solskjaer stated that he wants to instil an attacking philosophy at the club, and discussed his plans for youngsters like Martial, Rashford and Pogba.

Meanwhile, there have also been reports of Sir Alex Ferguson taking a new role at the club, as a consultant. It has been reported that Ed Woodward talked to Sir Alex before appointing Solskjaer and Mike Phelan – something he didn’t do before replacing van Gaal with Mourinho.

Solskjaer has now talked about consulting Sir Alex Ferguson. Here’s what he said:

Solskjaer on Sir Alex Ferguson:

Solskjaer has played for the entirety of his Manchester United career under the Scottish manager. Justifiably, much of his managerial philosophy is inspired from Sir Alex Ferguson’s style of play.

As the side takes on the field for the first time at Old Trafford under Solskjaer, he talked about taking advice from Ferguson during his time at Manchester United.

I’ve spoken to [Ferguson], hopefully, I’ll go to his or he’ll come to me and we’ll have a talk,” Solskjaer said.

He also stated that the Scotsman could give him ‘proper’ advice, unlike his teammates (referring to the Manchester United footballers he played)

“You know he’s the boss. If there’s anyone who can give me proper advice, not my teammates, that’s him,” the Norwegian stated.

What next?

Solskjaer wrote his first programme notes upon his return to Manchester United. He talked about bringing the attacking philosophy back to the club, and to ‘repay’ the fans for their support.

“I should start by underlining how excited I am to be back at Manchester United. I feel like I have come home.

“Not only do we have to improve results, we have to show people what Manchester United is all about. We have to show everybody who we really are.

“This is a club built on entertainment and excitement, on giving young players the opportunity to express themselves.

“It has been a difficult season but our fans have been incredible. It is time for that faith to be repaid.”
