Fans Bash Wimbledon Following Announcement of Seedings But it Could Prove to Be Good Omen for Novak Djokovic: “They Got This One Wrong”
It is that time of the year when the players are fans shift their attention on to the grass courts. Speaking about grass, there is no other tournament other than the Wimbledon Championships that is grander in this sport. And with the Grand Slam just a few days away, the organizers have announced the seedings.
Interestingly, Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed at the All England Club this year. Following him, seven-time champion Novak Djokovic is the second seeded player. However, this has not gone down well with certain fans.
Wimbledon Seedings for 2023
A few days back, Carlos Alcaraz won his maiden grass court title at the Queen’s Championships, which also catapulted him to the World No. 1 spot in men’s rankings, leapfrogging Novak Djokovic. On his part, the Serbian opted not to play any warm up grass tournament leading up to the Wimbledon Championships.
Going by last year, Novak was the champion and Carlos came only as far as the fourth round. Naturally, the Djokovic fan base created an uproar seeing their star on the second spot. Below are some of the comments of the fans on social media who disapprove of the seedings put out by the organizers.

Djokovic has won the Aus Open and French Open 2023, plus he has won last 4 consecutive Wimbledon titles from 2019 to 2022, So he should be the top seed in Wimbledon 2023, He is clearly the best player in the world, what more do you expect Djokovic to do?

What’s happened to the grass dependent algorithm? Has that gone out the window. There’s just no way on Earth Djokovic shouldn’t be the number one seed.

Couldn’t agree more. 7 times Champion and half way to a calendar slam. Disrespectful. Still, we know who’ll be there on Sunday 16th with the trophy, barring misfortune.

I don’t agree with Carlos getting top seed over seven times Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic. Jessica Pegula is seeded third she hasn’t gotten past a slam quarterfinal.

I adore the good folks @Wimbledon, truly the cathedral of tennis, but they got this one wrong. Defending champion #Djokovic, who has not lost on Centre Court since 2013, should be top seed, with #Alcaraz second. https://t.co/pnzhBwz6pl

Alcaraz and Djokovic competed against each other at the French Open most recently. Playing in the semi final, the experience of 36-year-old player guided him to a comfortable victory in the end, eventually leading him to his 23rd Major.
The has won the first two Majors of the calendar year and ironically, he’s done so as the second seed at both the events. Going by this track record, perhaps being seeded second might prove to be a good omen for the 36-year-old.
Great Opportunity for Novak Djokovic
As he continues to rewrite the history books, Djokovic has a great opportunity to equal his former rival, the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer who has won this tournament on eight occasions. Since 2003, the tournament has been dominated by the big four. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have been the only ones to win this tournament.
With the absence of Roger (retired) and Rafa (injured), it leaves the onus onto Novak and Andy. The Brit has not been the player he once used to be, leaving the Serb to be the favourite.
The tournament begins on the 3rd of July and the finals will be played on the 16th of July. It will be interesting to see who ends up winning the title.
