John Isner Retirement: The One Thing That Might Stop the American From Retiring at US Open

American tennis player John Isner gave an interview ahead of his participation at the Atlanta Open. During the talk, he spoke on various issues relating to achieving some milestones and how he would wish to spend his time post retirement.

The 38-year-old player also spoke about certain goals he would like to attain before he hangs his boots. There are a number of tournaments to play before the season comes to an end. However, even if he does not manage to get there, he wouldn’t be too gutted.

What Would Keep John Isner Going for Another Year?

During the interview, Isner spoke on the success he has had at the Atlanta Open. Out of the 12 editions, he has been in the finals on nine occasions. At the moment, he is on 487 career wins and is just 13 short of reaching the 500 mark. It would certainly be a great milestone for him to achieve before ending his career.

Unfortunately, Isner lost in his first round itself. After this, he wishes to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati prior to the US Open. Depending on his performances, he will do an assessment whether to compete in the following season or not.

While speaking on this subject, he stated,

“I’m a bit short of 500 wins, but it is something I would like to accomplish. I know very well that it might not happen this year. So we’ll see. A lot of it depends on my body and whether it would be up to playing another year. While I would like to accomplish the goal, I’m not going to lose sleep over it if it doesn’t happen.”

Like he mentioned, he will be taking things at a time. He does wish to attain the 500 wins mark but in case he does not, he would not be much bothered.

Why John Isner Wants To Retire?

John has reached that point in life, where tennis is not a priority. Being 38 years of age, he wishes to spend more time with his family. At the moment, his family enjoys traveling with him and has accompanied him this year to Australia and London.

They will be travelling with him to Cincinnati for the ATP Masters 1000 event. It remains to be seen how he will perform in the coming events. It will be interesting to see if he achieves the milestone prior to the end of this season.
