Already having one hand on the La Liga title, into the finals of Copa del Rey and cruising in the Champions League; Barcelona are clearly soaring high this season. At least according to their shot stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Suffering a major set back with Neymar’s departure to Paris-Saint Germain, the German keeper has dismissed all speculations saying that Barcelona are in fact, stronger after Neymar’s exit.
PSG activated Neymar’s release clause by initiating a world record €222M buyout clause to acquire Neymar from the Catalans.
But instead of causing a fracture in the Barcelona attack, it has seemingly done nothing as the they lead the table with a comfortable 10-point lead and maintain their 24-game unbeaten streak in La Liga.
You can’t explain the quality of Neymar, because he was so important to us as a person and as a footballer” Ter Stegen told an interview with ESPN.
“I think we’ve got some new players who have made us even stronger and hopefully they feel good and comfortable in the team and they adapt very fast. But at the same time we want to give them the time, Dembele didn’t play very often because he was injured [and] Coutinho just came. We always need to give them time and be patient because they are young and they have some great years ahead.”
Barcelona have invested heavily in the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho to fill up the void created by Neymar, but none of the players have made a significant impact till now.
Dembele has had quite a time on the bench with his injuries, while Coutinho still looks to adapt to his new team.
