Tottenham vs Watford VAR controversy: Spurs stadium shows ‘no goal’ after Dele Alli late equaliser in their Premier League encounter.

Tottenham’s abysmal run this season continued as they came back from the brink of defeat to equalise with bottom placed Watford. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s 6th minute strike gave the hornets the lead in the 6th minute of the match.

However, Tottenham equalised through Dele Alli in the 86th minute of the match. The midfielder, making his first start of the season, scored the leveller after Ben Foster failed to punch the ball. However, the goal was immediately questioned before confusion ensued as officials checked the goal.

What followed after essentially adds to the mounting criticism over the VAR being used in the Premier League. It is as if the FA in the country can’t find competent men and women to run the system ; One that was originally bought in to rid the game of confusions it has inadvertently caused instead.

Tempers began to flare in the field between the players as the VAR display disallowed the goal. However, the decision was quickly overturned by the referee who ruled in Tottenham’s favour and allowed the goal to stand.

Tottenham have fallen from grace in the same manner they reached the top; Rapidly. Spurs looked set to suffer their 3rd consecutive defeat.  However, both teams would stand their ground before the match ultimately ended in a draw.

Not a great result for Tottenham who seem to be playing worse by the day. Although, Spurs go back home with a point in their kitty. However, one could make the argument that it was not deserved at all.
