Raikkonen wins US GP, claiming his first win in 113 starts. Verstappen finished 2nd, with Hamilton and Vettel coming 3rd and 4th.

It was a race that was full of action, one where overtaking wasn’t a privilege and one where all the top drivers were involved in multiple battles with each other.

The underlying story coming into Austin was about Vettel and Hamilton, as Hamilton had a very realistic chance of claiming his 5th World Title.

Vettel did everything he could to make it easier for Hamilton, as he took a 3 place grid penalty before the start of the race and then collided with Ricciardo to start from the back of the pile.

However, a slight error in strategy from Mercedes, with respect to the tyre strategy meant that Hamilton was made to give up on his track position and get involved in that rut with Verstappen and Raikkonen(who was leading the race).

The last 10 laps helped fans witness some of the best on track action this year, with Hamilton, Verstappen and Raikkonen involved in such a close rut.

Right towards the end, Verstappen went a little wide, allowing Lewis the chance to overtake him , but Verstappen defended brilliantly in order to keep Hamilton at bay.

And right on the last lap, Vettel overtook Bottas to take 4th place.

Raikkonen hadn’t won a race for 113 grand prix and was ecstatic having won it.

This is how Twitter reacted:
