3 sets, 3 tiebreaks and 3 hours of gruelling tennis; Federer vs Kyrgios will go down as one of the best matches of the year. For Kyrgios the match was ridden with emotions as he had to fight not just Federer’s brilliance but also the crowd. For Federer it was about getting that one good return game in place, something that he just couldn’t muster(except that one break of serve in the first set), but ultimately just got over the line with an unreturned serve in the 3rd set tiebreak.
It has been a year of comebacks in the Tennis world, with Nadal, Federer and Venus romping up the wins against the younger generation and defying all odds to still be in and around the helm of the Tennis world.
The Kyrgios vs Federer match up was always going to be a very tight one, as both players try and mix up the game a little in order to better their opponents, and with Kyrgios’ big booming serve and Federer’s pin point precision. it was all about who played those important moments better.
And while Tennis did take centre stage in this intense match, the crowd too played a part, cheering on Federer and sending the occasional jeers to Tennis’ bad boy. Kyrgios let his emotions flow all through, breaking racquets, shouting at himself, but the worst moment came at 5-4 in the final set tie break, when Kyrgios set himself up to hit a forehand, and someone from the crowd shouted ‘out’, distracting Kyrgios who ultimately shanked his forehand and sent the ball out wide.
Kyrgios wasn’t pleased one bit and made sure that fan got a piece of his mind. “Oh my god, shut up!” he shouted. “Shut the f— up! What the f— are you doing?”
And that little altercation played on his mind as he dished out a double fault and almost presented the match on a platter to Federer.
This is Federer’s first win over Kyrgios and now for the 3rd time this year, he’ll be facing his arch nemesis in a bid to win that elusive Miami Open title.
It’s been a fairytale 2017 for most Tennis fans(okay more so for the Federer fans) and they would be hoping that this bubble never bursts. It’s going to be an amazing Sunday in Miami, do not miss it for the world.

And with it, it’s Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal, for the third time in this young season. (Not bad for two old guys.)

Kyrgios double faulted on the following point and Federer won it on the next, 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-6(5). 3h09m. Hell of a match, messy finish.

All the people questioning how Federer can suddenly play like this have no understanding of the importance confidence plays for an athlete.

How often has it been said that a Federer vs Nadal final will have trouble living up to the previous match? Kudos to Kyrgios for tonight.

It's only Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal.
