Twitter reactions on Nicholas Pooran’s maiden ODI century: Twitter was exhilarated at watching the West Indian southpaw’s knock.

During the 39th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between Sri Lanka and West Indies at Chester-le-Street, West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran registered his maiden ODI century in an outstanding effort to chase a 339-run target.

Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 16th over, Pooran saw wickets falling at regular intervals in front of him. With the required run rate continuing to rise, Pooran’s innings saw witnessed him taking calculated risks initially.

At the 30-over mark, West Indies required 180 runs to win in 20 overs. With Pooran batting at 38* and West Indies having lost half their side, the onus was on him to steer the chase.

It was at this point in time that Pooran started to open his arms. On the first ball of the 33rd over, Pooran welcomed Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne with a colossal six to complete his half-century. In the following over being bowled by Kasun Rajitha, Pooran hit him for a four and a six to keep his side in the chase.

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite’s (8) unfortunate run-out in the next over added more responsibility on the 21-year old cricketer’s shoulders. It seemed as if Pooran had made it a point to score boundaries in every over since then.

On the second ball of the 45th over, Pooran ran a couple of runs off Isuru Udana to complete his first ODI century. Given the manner in which he played, the knock was gleefully celebrated by the West Indian fans.
