England played Sweden in their quarterfinal of the World Cup.

‘The Three Lions’ eased past their European opponents Sweden to secure a place in the semifinals of the World Cup. It is the only second time England has reached the semifinal of the tournament ever since they won it in 1966. England reached the semifinal in 1990, where they lost to Italy.

The match started slow with both the teams looking loose on the attack, however Harry Maguire opened the goal-scoring from a inch-perfect cross by Ashley Young in the first half. Sweden made some good chances but England’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford stood like an absolute rock in front of the goal.

Dele Alli doubled the lead when the Manchester United duo, Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard linked-up in the second half. Lingard served a delightful chipped cross for Dele, who was unmarked when he put the header inside the back of the net.

With this win, England will now play the winner of Croatia vs Russia in the semifinal of the World Cup. The first semifinal has already been lined up as France overcame Uruguay, while Brazil were stunned by Belgium in the first quarter-final matchday.
