Former UFC champion Conor McGregor is the richest athlete in the promotion. However, it was not the same for the Dubliner during his early days. Through his sheer hard work and dedication, McGregor reached the pinnacle of the sport.

In the process, ‘The Notorious’ earned a fortune. Interestingly, he used it wisely and generated multiple streams of income. Today, the Irish star is worth over $200 million and is listed amongst the highest-paid athletes on the planet, like LeBron James, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, McGregor believes he is just above the former Manchester United star.

What did Conor McGregor say about Cristiano Ronaldo?

The former two-weight UFC champion McGregor took to his official Instagram account and posted a story. In the story, ‘The Notorious’ reposted a report from an MMA page, which showed the UFC star topping the list of earnings per minute.

According to the list, McGregor earned over $8.6 million per minute, staying active in the ring. In second place was the Mexican boxing champion, Canelo Alvarez, earning $446k per minute. Meanwhile, Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo was in third place earning $18,600 per minute.

However, there is no official source for the figures. But it is interesting to note that the former UFC champion has once officially surpassed the football giants Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to become the number one highest-earning athlete, according to Forbes in 2021.

‘The Notorious’ now in the UFC?

McGregor is currently on a two-fight skid in the promotion. He also faced a horrific injury in his last outing in 2021. However, he has recovered from the injury and is back to training.

But the UFC star has yet not stated a date or an opponent for his UFC comeback. He has recently hinted at returning to the USADA testing pool in February 2022. Thus, we can speculate that the pay-per-view star might return in the fourth quarter of the year.
