Bearjew Paul Craig chokes out Gadzhimurad Antigulov at UFC Fight Island 3

Bearjew Paul Craig submits Gadzhimurad Antigulov in their opening round with a triangle choke at UFC Fight Island 3.

Sometimes knowing what to expect doesn’t make it any less exciting. Anybody who has ever watched MMA knows that Paul Craig will go for a submission manoeuvre. Yet very few have ever managed to stop him from doing so.

The Scotsman was at it again at UFC On ESPN 14. However, instead of going for a late submission finish, he decided to go for the kill early on. It took him only 2:06 of the first round to beat Gadzhimurad Antigulov with a triangle choke.

Craig let Antigulov take him down early on in order to set up his own game which he did by tying Antigulov with his legs. He eventually caught him in the triangle while Antigulov continued to ground and pound the Scotsman.

Despite bleeding, Craig continued to improve his position and eventually got the lock right, forcing Antigulov to tap out at 2.06mins of the opening round.

Paul Craig has now won 3 consecutive fights. Interestingly, all 5 of his UFC wins have come by submission. Which means, Bearjew is now tied with five others for the most submission wins in UFC light heavyweight history (5).

“As he was elbowing me, it was sinking in deeper,” Craig said of the choke. “It was worth it.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
