Gilbert Burns is eying a quick return and wants to challenge the top title contenders of the Welterweight division. The fighter lost the championship bout against Kamaru Usman at UFC 258.
After putting up a valiant effort against Kamaru Usman at UFC 258, Gilbert Burns has apparently processed his defeat and is now contemplating the idea of a quick return. The fighter is still placed at second in the Welterweight rankings and hence is aware that a couple of victories can again land him the title shot. So, with the experience of a setback, the fighter is eager to come back strong, and therefore is mulling over the names of possible challengers.
While at this juncture the Welterweight division is stacked with contenders, and with each one in the top 5 is in the race to proceed, there are speculations that Jorge Masvidal is the frontrunner and may get booked for the next edition of “The Ultimate Fighter,” alongside Kamaru Usman.
If Masvidal indeed gets the spot then he will become the next No.1 contender, which will leave Colby Covington, Leon Edwards, and Stephen Thompson in the hanging and in the waiting zone. Burns, who is apparently aware of this scenario is open to fight any of the aforementioned.

Gilbert Burns on who he would like to face next
Gilbert Burns recently appeared in an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto and talked about his potential return to the Octagon.
“I believe I’ll be ready to come back May or June and I want to be right back in the mix, you know and then I know a lot of talks, a lot of things are going on in the division right now.
Burns paid heed on the Usman’s callout to Jorge and Covington’s reluctance to fight Leon.
At the day that I fought, I thought next #1 contender would be Leon Edwards against Colby Covington, and that fight just not happen, how crazy it is? That’s clear #1 contender, now Kamaru’s fighting Jorge Masvidal, then Colby doesn’t wanna fight Leon. Sometimes you just gotta shut up and fight, like you guys are fighters.”
About his next fight, the 34-year-old is considering Colby Covington as the “number one guy” to make a restart against but at the same time deems Wonderboy and Michael Chiesa as the ideal opponents as well.
“For me, I got Wonderboy right there, I got Colby Covington right there. Colby Covington is the number one guy, if you ask me ‘Gilbert, who you want?’ I would say Colby but Wonderboy makes sense, Michael Chiesa makes sense.”
