YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul defeated former UFC star Nate Diaz in a captivating 10-round boxing bout on August 5th, 2023. Following their clash, both fighters agreed to a potential rematch in MMA. Despite the loss, Diaz’s stock remained high, given his experience and potential advantage in an MMA showdown. Thus, many thought that it would be a good option for him to avenge his loss. Additionally, Paul extended a $10 million offer for the rematch to the Stockton Slapper. However, the rematch never materialized, and Jake Paul explained the reasons behind this during his recent appearance on the Full Send podcast.
The Younger Paul brother wanted to fight Diaz under the PFL banner post-boxing match. Stockton’s second child, on the other hand, was not interested in the offer, as he had some other plans. This seemed to have agitated ‘The Problem Child’.
Jake Paul reveals why Nate Diaz MMA fight talks broke down
After defeating Ali Eson Gib in 2020, the younger Paul brother went on to secure a series of victories against seasoned UFC fighters, including Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz. As a result, during his interviews, he is frequently questioned about UFC and MMA fighters.
During his recent appearance on the Full Send podcast, Jake Paul discussed a potential MMA rematch with Nate Diaz. ‘The Problem Child‘ stated that he had offered Stockton’s second child a very financially lucrative offer.
However, due to the extraordinary demands of the MMA star, the fight never saw the light of day. He said:
“So I tried to fight Nate. We tried everything. [Why the negotiations broke down] And he was just making such big requests behind the scenes… Okay, $10 million, but if he loses to me, it’s like he’s gonna get made fun of, right? And he felt the power. But I don’t think he can take me down. So he couldn’t submit me. It’s kind of a lose-lose situation for him.“
After signing a very lucrative deal with PFL back in January 2023, Paul has been waiting for his MMA debut. Thus, he is always ready to fight Diaz in an MMA match. Nevertheless, the ‘Stockton Slapper’ has stipulated his own conditions for the rematch.
Diaz’s conditions for the MMA fight
UFC veteran Nate Diaz spent a remarkable 15 years shaping his legacy before moving on from the organization to establish his own promotion, ‘Real Fight Inc.’ Consequently, he declined the opportunity to face Paul under the PFL banner.
Diaz expressed his stance on this matter in a Tweet addressing the MMA rematch offer. In his Tweet, he not only declined but also criticized Paul and the PFL in his message.
While Diaz has expressed his disinterest in competing in the PFL, the younger Paul brother is eager to arrange their potential MMA rematch within the confines of his new promotion.
Currently, they have hit an impasse in their negotiations. It remains unclear whether either party can persuade the other to ultimately schedule the fight.
