Alex Perez replaces Cody Garbrandt to become the new No.1 contender for the Flyweight title. UFC 255, which is scheduled to take place on November 21, sees a major modification in the main event.
Cody Garbrandt, who was set to face Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC 255, is now out injured, and Alex Perez has been called upon to replace the 29-year-old. Garbrandt, 12-3, a former UFC Bantamweight champion decided to switch to Flyweight in August 2020, and was straightaway given the title fight against the new champion Figueiredo. But, reportedly a torn bicep has now forced him out of the contest.

Cody Garbrandt Explained his plight via an Instagram live session, and revealed a few months ago he was tested Covid-19 positive, though recovered from the deadly virus successfully, but upon returning to training after 7 weeks, on Monday, September 28, he felt the unusual pain in the arm, and after seeing medical experts, he learnt about his condition and informed UFC that he would stay out from the practice for another 5 weeks.

Now the opportunity falls into the lap of Alex Perez, who is No.4 in the division, and was initially expected to go up against Brandon Moreno at the same event. The Mexican Stud has leapfrogged Moreno and Askar Askarov to ultimately reach the main event.
