UFC News: Khamzat Chimaev Pulls Out From The January 20 Fight Night Event; Who Can Replace Him In the Main Event against Leon Edwards?

The much-anticipated rebooking between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards is evidently scrapped from the January 20 fight card.

Swedish outlet Front Kick, was apparently the first to report the cancellation and stated that this time the issue is with Khamzat.

Who Can Replace Him In the Main Event against Leon Edwards?

The fight was originally targeted for the December 19 fight card, but Covid-19 laid waste on the card and victimized Leon Edwards.

It is unfortunate as just Yesterday, Khamzat on social media implicated his plans for 2021.

The UFC’s confirmation is awaited. So, it is unclear at this point how they plan to proceed with Edwards and the event that is now without a headliner.

However, upon noticing the update, Kevin Holland and Neil Magny have expressed interest in going up against Leon Edwards. So, one of them can enter as a substitute.

With this huge setback, now a possible replacement will be assigned. Since Welterweight is a stacked-up weight division and no short of title challengers, therefore, if not the fight with the same hype, still a top-ranked fighter can be called upon in two weeks’ notice.

Even though 2020 turned out to be an exceptional year for UFC, on positive grounds, yet it did face curtailments on almost every card. While for that matter, Covid-19 laid waste on regular basis, the ever-presence of injuries was also a factor.

Now it seems, the ill-fate has set foot in 2021 as well, and has eyes on high octane main events.
