“We never even asked Conor to fight” – Dana White sounds off on media for muddying Conor McGregor situation

“We never even asked Conor to fight” – Dana White sounds off on media for muddying Conor McGregor situation and his potential involvement in UFC 249.

Dana White was far from pleased with the way the media have interpreted his words regarding Conor McGregor in a recent interview. The UFC president seemed to indicate that McGregor was unhappy with not being granted a match against Justin Ghaetje.

“(McGregor) wants to fight Gaethje. Gaethje just won to get the fight with (champion) Khabib,” White had said on “First Take.” “He just beat Tony Ferguson. Conor had the opportunity to slide into that spot if Khabib or Tony fell out. He came back and said, ‘I’m not a replacement fighter. I’m not going to do it.’ He would be in that position now if he took the fight. He didn’t, Gaethje did, so Gaethje gets it.”

Several media outlets took White’s comments as a swipe against McGregor. An incensed Dana White however, denied any wrongdoing and placed the blame on the media for turning the situation into something it wasn’t.

“The bullsh*t that I have read this week. I started scrolling through: ‘Dana White rips Conor McGregor.’ What? When did I f*cking rip Conor McGregor?” White told reporters at the UFC Apex. “The media is so full of sh*t. And the f*cking headlines are such f*cking bullsh*t. You literally can’t believe anything you read.”

“I do one interview where I’m explaining on the radio how this happened and all these idiots start writing stories that I ripped him and that I said he wouldn’t take the fight and everything else. It’s all bulls–t,” said White. “The only thing that was stupider than the f—ing stories that they wrote was the headlines that they put on it.”

“We never even asked Conor to fight (after Khabib was ruled out).”

“Never did Conor turn down a last-minute fight,” White said. “He told us way before that, that he was out of the fight, and we never even asked him again.”

This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
