How to Play Cypher in Valorant: Abilities, Tips, and Tricks
Cypher came out with multiple agents when Valorant first came out. He was one of the original Sentinels and back then his abilities were overpowered. His spycam could use weapons that broke the game. But now he has had an on-and-off place in the meta.
However, professional players still use him in matches due to his ability to lock down a site and watch flanks when attaching. However, if you do not know where to place those flanks, the enemies can easily break through them. That being said, let us look at the abilities.
Abilities
(Q): Cyber Cage
INSTANTLY toss the cyber cage in front of Cypher. Activate to create a zone that blocks vision and slows enemies who pass through it.
(E): Spycam
EQUIP a spy cam. FIRE to place the spycam at the targeted location. RE-USE this ability to take control of the camera’s view. While in control of the camera, FIRE to shoot a marking dart. This dart will reveal the location of any player struck by the dart.
(C): Trapwire
EQUIP a trapwire. FIRE to place a destructible and covert tripwire at the targeted location creating a line that spans between the placed location and the wall opposite. Enemy players who cross a tripwire will be tethered, revealed, and dazed after a short period if they do not destroy the device in time. This ability can be picked up to be REDEPLOYED.
(X): Neural Theft
INSTANTLY use on a dead enemy player in your crosshairs to reveal the location of all living enemy players.
Attacker Side Strategies
Your job as a Sentinel is to watch your teams back’s, execute with the team, trade the kills, and gather information. However, if you want to utilize Cypher properly, you need to learn how to utilize his abilities to form setups.
Ensure that you set up trips where enemies can flank from, do not leave any gaps open. Your Spycam should be with you at all times because you will need it to gather information on-site. Use your Spycam to put it on the site you want to execute on and then see where the enemies might be hiding.
Cyber Cages are some of the most important pieces of utility you can not only use to deny information but to make sure you do not get shot at by your enemies. It can also help if you want to cause suspicion or fake a site hit.
Defender Side Strategies
The defender side is where Cypher shines the most. Your Trip Wires combined with the Spycam and the Cyber Cages are going to be lethal if placed in proper places. Now, there are multiple combinations you can use for Cypher to take advantage of his utility and combo it up.
Remember, your Spycam can activate the Cyber Cages as well. Place your Cyber Cages near the Trip Wires so that you can activate them with your Spycam. Do not use the same setup twice in a row. Enemies will figure out your setup. In addition, rotate sites when you can.
Your Spycam tagging enemies can be helpful. However, do not always resolve to tag your opponents since they might find out where the cam is and destroy it. However, it is important to be aggressive as well. If you do not find enemies near your site then it is important to lurk out and flank your enemies to take them by surprise.
Find some Spycams you can place up high where people cannot find them. This can help you gather information about the site hit and you can use it to relay that info to your teammates. It can turn the tides of the battle and let your team take fights confidently.
Tips and Tricks
Here are some tips and tricks you can use to play Cypher on both attack and defense. Check them out to upgrade your knowledge of Cypher and utilize his utility in the best way you can.
- Find a nice cover spot and then monitor your trip mines. When the enemies walk into it, you can spray at them to get easy kills. However, ensure that you do not get spammed back. A good idea is to lay a Cyber Cage before you spam and use a Phantom so enemies do not track your spam.
- Use one-ways to ensure that enemies do not get easy entrance onto the site. In addition, it can allow you to get easy kills as well.
- Lurk frequently. Be on the lookout for site hits and ensure that you can rotate and lurk behind the enemy. It would be even better if they do not have a Sentinel watching their backs.
- This tip is only when enemies are continuously walking through one segment of the map. Ensure that you double-trip a spot. Even if you miss the first spam, you can get another trip activated and then get a spam kill. Another good thing about this tip is that the enemies won’t expect two trips in one spot.
- Your ultimate is the best tool for information. If you can get an early trip kill with the Wire and then Ult the corpse, you can get information about the whole team, and your team can rotate.
