Vijender Singh-Zulpikar Maimaitiali bout confirmed for August
Vijender Singh is all set to return to action, as the WBO has sanctioned the bout between Vijender and Maimaitiali for August in Mumbai. Vijender is the reigning WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion whereas Maimaitiali is the WBO Oriental Super Middleweight Champion.
Both these boxers are the best in their respective countries and would be vying to keep that spot close to their chest. This is touted to be Asia’s biggest battle and the authorities and organisers are extremely pumped for this.
“We are happy to know on WBO’s decision sanctioning Asia’s biggest battle between Vijender Singh and Zulpikar Maimaithiali. The sanction is in place and we can now move forward with Zulpikar’s team SECA to finalise terms and locking the date and venue in Mumbai.” said Neerav Tomar(IOS Boxing Promotions).
Both these boxers are unbeaten ever since they went pro. This bout will be a double title one, as the winner will hold both titles and the loser will be left with none.
After reviewing fight records of both the participants, I am satisfied with their past results and therefore approved this unification bout of the WBO Asia Pacific/WBO Oriental Super – Middleweight titles.” said Leon Panoncillo Jr., Chairman WBO Asia Pacific.
Vijender Singh has a perfect record, winning all his 8 bouts, 7 of them through KO and one through ‘unanimous decision’. He would be looking to extend his run to 9, especially when he has the ‘home ring’ advantage. Zulpikar too has a perfect record, winning 7 bouts, 5 of them through KO.
It’s a high profile bout and only Vijender’s ‘A’ game would help him sail through.
