Virat Kohli comments on Pakistan fans’ rare support for the Indian Cricket Team for the India vs England 2019 World Cup match at Edgbaston

In what is being described as a rare of the rarest moment in Cricketing history, perhaps the very first time arch-rivals India and Pakistan are on equal terms. And it could have happened only via a Cricket match- which is deeply rooted in the very system of the common people of the two nations.

Every common person back in Pakistan is cheering for an Indian victory versus England as that would mean that Pakistan’s chances for making it through to the semi-finals of the ongoing Cricket World Cup increases significantly.

If England manage to lose against India at Edgbaston, it would mean that Pakistan’s only requirement for securing a semi-final berth would be a win versus Bangladesh in their last league match. On the other hand, if England win against India, Pakistan will not only have to win against Bangladesh, but also hope England to lose their last game versus New Zealand.

Kohli speaks over the rare turn of tables

Asked about the same during Toss time by Michael Atherton, Kohli admitted with a smile that it was a rare occurrence, but at the same time also stressed upon the fact that they need to focus to what lies ahead of them.

“To be honest I haven’t seen what’s been happening outside. But I do believe the Pakistani fans will be supporting us, which is a rare thing,” said Kohli.

Not just Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand too will rest their hopes on the Indian team. If India win, they will carry New Zealand alongside them to the semis.
