Virat Kohli was smiling ear to ear today after RCB managed to brush aside a stiff challenge from MI at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
It was a cagey affair all through as the pitch had some very visible and malicious demons in it.
The ball started spinning and holding up in the pitch from ball one, and hence the free flowing stroke play that was expected out of all the hard hitting batsman on display couldn’t really come to the fore.
A late flourish from CDG ensured that RCB got an above par total on a pitch that was supposed to get drier and slower in the 2nd innings.
And while we thought the slower bowlers would dominate the second innings, it was in fact the RCB fast bowlers that brought in the breakthroughs.
In the end, even the Pandya brothers couldn’t save the day for MI, as Southee, Siraj and Umesh ensured that RCB got over the line with ease at the end.
Kohli seemed like a very content man after the win and after praising his team for the performance also gave a little shoutout to his wife, who was celebrating her brithday today.
“My wife is here and it’s her birthday. This was a little gift for her. It was very important to achieve this two points in front of her.” Kohli said.
RCB are now right back in the playoff mix, but still can afford just one more loss in the tournament. With AB de Villiers set to return for the next game, their batting should be strengthened by a huge extent. And if the bowling unit can deliver like today, we could be in for a late RCB surge in IPL 2018.
