Virat Kohli ruled out of Surrey county stint due to neck injury

Virat Kohli is likely to miss out on the much-hyped Surrey county stint next month due to a neck injury that he sustained in a match against SRH at Bangalore.

There was a lot of hype around Kohli’s County stint for Surrey. Cricket pundits applauded his move to prepare himself well in order to put up a good show in the Test series against England. On the other hand, the idea of the Indian Captain missing the one off Test against Afghanistan did not go down well with some.

As per reports, Kohli is seeing an orthopaedic surgeon in Mumbai concerning a back injury. While Mumbai Mirror reported that Kohli was diagnosed a herniated disc which could lead to his missing the Test series in August if he is not careful with his workload, other reports state otherwise.

As per a BCCI official, Kohli’s injury was not as serious as it is being reported but he must manage his workload better in the lead-up to the series. The official said, “There is no way now he is going to play 17 days of cricket in one month, you can forget about that. As of now, he is likely to play the first two first-class matches, then recuperate and then join the team in Ireland.”

However, a Tweet from cricbuzz later has cast serious doubts about Kohli’s availability:

The news comes as a huge setback for Surrey who were banking on Kohli to play for the entire month. It seems likely that Kohli will miss the County season
