Chelsea will take on Liverpool in a vital Premier League clash later tonight, and a Chelsea forward has issued a warning to their star defender, Virgil van Dijk.
Chelsea meets Liverpool in a significant Premier League game on Sunday night.
Both the teams cannot afford to drop points in the league at the moment. While Chelsea is in the race for a top-4 position, Liverpool faces relentless competition from Manchester City for the league title.
Chelsea will aim to do a repeat of the 2013/14 season, where under Jose Mourinho, the Blues spoiled Liverpool’s party. Brendan Rodgers’ side was in the pole position to secure its first-ever league title, but Mourinho’s defensive tactics led to a 2-0 win for Chelsea.
A Chelsea forward, meanwhile, sent a warning to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk ahead of the game.
Look out, Virgil van Dijk!
Talking about the prospect of facing Van Dijk, Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud stated that he has a good record against the Liverpool defender.
The Dutchman has been a rock for Liverpool at the heart of the side’s defence.
“I played against him personally a few times and it has always been a tough position because he is very good and very strong,” Giroud began.
“But I’ve scored a few goals playing against his teams.”
Giroud insisted that Chelsea isn’t scared of Van Dijk or Liverpool and aim to secure three points when the side travels to Anfield.
“I played against him in the Netherlands when we played recently but I won last year and scored at Stamford Bridge and scored the winner at the Stade de France against the Netherlands a few months ago.
“We don’t have to be scared and no matter who plays we will be 100% focused on winning the game,” Giroud said.
Chelsea is currently at 4th position in the league, but have a chance to go ahead of Tottenham as the team faces Liverpool – albeit with an extra game played.
How Twitter reacted..
If I was Sarri, I’d go for Giroud up front.
LFC will press really hard as usually so it’s crucial to have someone to recieve long balls.
He’s more physical than Higuain & overall better striker right now than Higuain.#CFC pic.twitter.com/3g9elH7MSW— Chelista (@ChelseaVibe) April 14, 2019
Giroud on Chelsea fans abusing Mohamed Salah:
“Nowadays once is too much. So it’s not acceptable, these guys don’t belong to Chelsea. It’s stupid to do that. I think Salah is strong enough to ignore them. We need to move forward and leave these people to one side”
