Virgil Van Dijk speaks on possibility of Lionel Messi winning Ballon D'or

Virgil Van Dijk speaks on the possibility of Lionel Messi winning the Ballon D’or ahead of him as the award ceremony will take place tonight.

Amidst the finalists to win the Ballon D’or, Lionel Messi and Virgil Van Dijk are tipped to be the closest contestants to bag the award tonight in Paris. Both players had a terrific year in the European football and considering their performances the voting points will determine the winner.

Lionel Messi has already seen the podium of Ballon D’or for several years but Van Dijk would be standing along with him for the first time. Van Dijk has a huge claim at the award as he played the most crucial role in Liverpool’s Champions League triumph.

But even Messi had an exceptional year in front of the goal, and le Barcelona in crucial wins single-handedly. Amidst all this, a photo emerged last night, which claimed to be the final standings of the Ballon D’or.

So, When Van Dijk quizzed as per the Foxsports about the possibility of missing out on BDO and the Argentine winning his sixth overall, Van Dijk said that there won’t be any losers.

“There are no losers on that evening,” the Dutchman said after the Reds’ 2-1 win in the Premier League over Brighton. I am very proud to be in that bracket, be in there for the way I performed with the team last year and also with the country.

“It is just something to be proud of because not a lot of players go there and are up for these kinds of things. There are no losers that evening – we’ll see what happens.”
