England skipper Eoin Morgan brushed away all his injury concerns prior the match and hit an awe-inspiring and record breaking 148 off just 71 deliveries against Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup match no.24 being played at Manchester.
He was all over the Afghan bowling attack like a rash, pummelling a total of 4 fours and 17 mammoth sixes to power England to 397/6 in 50 overs- their highest total in a World Cup match ever.
With 17 sixes, Morgan broke the record of hitting the maximum number of sixes in an ODI innings. He surpassed the likes of Rohit Sharma, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle, who had each hit 16 maximums in the past.
Rashid Khan taken to the cleaners
Perhaps the best bowler in the Afghanistan side, Rashid Khan also had a record to his name which he would like to forget as early as possible. He ended his 9-over spell by giving away 110 runs without picking up even a single English wicket.
His match figures etched at the scoreboard was 9-0-110-0 which was also surprisingly the worst figures in the innings- something that his skipper-Gulbadin Naib would have never expected from their best bowler.
Morgan, in fact hit 7 sixes to Rashid alone, out of his total score of 17 in the match. He smashed the 20-year-old for 2 sixes in the 36th over, 3 sixes in the 43rd over, and another couple in the 45th over, to literally reduce his figures to nothing. He in fact scored 58 runs in the 20 deliveries he faced against Rashid in the innings.

Records Galore
Records tumbled at The Old Trafford in Manchester after England’s breathtaking innings. Joe Root was once again in sublime touch, and missed his 3rd century in the ongoing World Cup by 12 runs. He scored a classy 88 off 82 balls. Opener Jonny Bairstow gave them an excellent start scoring 90 off 99 deliveries.
Thus, Root has now been involved in five 100+ partnerships in 2019 Cricket World Cup, which is the joint most for a player in a World Cup. His partnership with Morgan (189 runs) became the highest stand for an English pair in World Cups.
The 25 sixes in the entire English innings, was the highest number of sixes hit by any team in a World Cup match. The next best was 19 sixes hit by West Indies against Zimbabwe in the previous World Cup.
