During the fourth match of the ongoing Asia Cup between Hong Kong and India at Dubai yesterday, India had defeated Hong Kong by 26 runs. In a match which wasn’t expected to go as close as it eventually went, India ended up as the winners.
However, a post-match video which has become a highlight on social media, sees the Indian players visiting Hong Kong’s dressing room and greeting all the players. In which is both a moving and encouraging gesture on the part of the Indian team, it signifies the exact manner in which the game should be played.
This edition of the Asia Cup has been a special journey for Hong Kong for they have rubbed shoulders among India and Pakistan without having gained an ODI status as yet. Qualified after beating UAE in the final of the qualifiers, Hong Kong put on display their promise against India.
In a 286-run chase, they were in it for most part of the second innings before inexperience at this stage got the better of them. It was generous on India’s part to visit their counterparts and share knowledge which might come in handy for them.
Other than that, the Indian players in Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dinesh Karthik were seen posing for pictures and wishing the Hong Kong players luck for future.
It is these moments because of why cricket is known as ‘Gentleman’s Game’. No matter how hard you fight for a victory on the ground, outside of it there should always be a camaraderie between teams.
