MS Dhoni batting in nets

MS Dhoni batting in nets: The Indian wicket-keeper batsman will look to continue his form in the imminent series as well.

Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni would be looking to continue on the momentum which he has gained from the recently concluded tour of Australia.

After being declared as the ‘Man of the series’ for scoring 193 runs in three matches at an average of 193 and a strike rate of 73.10 including three half-centuries, Dhoni seems to have left behind a ‘poor’ 2018.

Having last won it in 2011, it has taken Dhoni more than seven years to win another such award. With him winning it now, it has made people believe that he still has it in him to dominate the proceedings during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

In a bid to prepare for the World Cup, Dhoni’s next assignment will begin from tomorrow as India will play a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, the first of which will be played at Napier.

Having toured New Zealand in 2009 and 2014, it will be Dhoni’s third bilateral tour of New Zealand. However, it will be the first time that Dhoni will travel to the country as a non-captain.

In the 12 ODIs which Dhoni has played in New Zealand, he has scored 541 runs at an average of 90.16 and a strike rate of 96.95. Six half-centuries in 10 innings speak highly about the 37-year old cricketer’s record in New Zealand.

Overall against the Kiwis, Dhoni has scored 841 runs in 24 matches at an average of 49.47 and a strike rate of 81.72. The numbers are evident of the fact that Dhoni has it in him to yield success against the Kiwis in this series.
