After almost a decade as the captain of the Indian team, MS Dhoni decided to give up his captaincy in early 2017. It marked the end of what has till date been the most successful reign that any Indian captain has ever had.

While Ganguly deserves a lot of plaudits for shaping Indian cricket around the turn of the century, he could not match the trophy cabinet that MS Dhoni now possesses.

Dhoni won every ICC tournament during his time as skipper and was also a hugely successful skipper for the Chennai Super Kings. So when the time did come for him to go back to being just another player in squad, fans were wondering if the dynamic between him and his successor Kohli would work for Indian cricket.

So far, it looks like the transition has been handled brilliantly with Indian cricket just going from strength to strength.

The Kohli-Dhoni axis has been one of the biggest reasons for team India’s recent success in the limited overs format. The current skipper often consults with Dhoni and the pair then decide on field placements and bowing options.

This stems from the respect that the two have for each other, as both men realize the value of the other in the side. So much so that, Dhoni takes charge of the field settings when the slow bowlers come into the attack.

Also in the death overs, Kohli patrols the boundary while Dhoni takes charge of the in-ring fielders. With the stump mics being switched on during the ongoing India-South Africa series, fans have got to hear some amazing little snippets of conversations between the Indian players.

The stump mic has unearthed some brilliant bits on the field, which has made the matches all the more enjoyable for fans.

Dhoni has been prominent in these clips, as the wicket-keeper is heard instructing Yadav and Chahal on how and where to bowl, in addition to adjusting the field settings.

In this video, we can hear Dhoni telling Kohli to change his position on the field, to which Kohli readily agrees to his former skipper.
