MS Dhoni has had a very interesting 2017, as for the first time in ten years he was no longer the captain of the Indian team. But that also meant that Dhoni had to suddenly face a barrage of criticism for any small mistake that he made this year.
For so long the leader of this Indian side, MS Dhoni was now just a member of Virat Kohli’s side. While he still retained a wealth of experience and knowledge, Dhoni’s critics were now questioning his place in the side.
But as he has shown through out his career, Mahi always bounces back in the face of adversity, with 2017 being no different. Dhoni was brilliant this year and was a major reason why India had such a successful home season.
A lot of credit must also go to Virat Kohli and the team management, as they have made a noticeable attempt at getting Dhoni more involved during the matches. So much so that Dhoni and Kohli seemingly share the captaincy duties during the matches.
This is particularly obvious when the spinners come into the attack, as Chahal and Yadav have hugely benefited from Dhoni’s presence behind the stumps.
Dhoni always loved playing around with the spinners, as he became twice the captain when the slow bowlers came into the picture. That is now being seen in the matches, as Dhoni’s influence has helped Yadav and Chahal quickly become a crucial cog in India’s ODI and T20I setup.
Here is an incident when Mahi got really angry with Chahal earlier in the year, during the 3rd T20I against England.
