Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon’s guile, spin and bounce was always going to be a huge factor in the Ashes, as England did not quite have a quality spinner travelling to Australia.

However, it wasn’t Lyon’s fire-spitting off-spinners that made the headlines today, but his raw athleticism that helped him complete one of the most stunning caught and bowled catches that the Ashes has ever seen.

Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow had been constructing a shrewd little partnership in the middle, soaking in all the pressure and chipping away with crucial runs, but Ali then tried to turn one round to mid wicket, and ended up getting a leading edge, which Nathan Lyon swallowed  up brilliantly, flying towards his left, and simply plucking the ball out of thin air.

Ali’s wicket meant that England had lost 6, with England 310 runs behind Australia’s mammoth first innings score of 442.

Starc then did not want to be left too far behind, picked up another blinder, dishing out a lovely juggling caught and bowled to send Bairstow back to the hut.

Australia are currently dominating this test match(and the series), not letting the English side come back in any which way.
