The city of Basel will forever be indebted to Roger Federer for putting it to on the global sporting map. Their hero has scaled all heights possible in the sporting world and has never been shy of giving back to the place that has been instrumental in shaping him as a world beater.

When Federer took the court against Del Potro in the final, there was this air of expectation, with the home crowd hoping to the see their king lift the Basel title for a record 8th time.

It was just meant to be, and that is exactly how the entire thing panned out.

Del Potro has always posed a stiff challenge for Federer, and yesterday was no different, with the Argentine matching Federer shot for shot and unleashing his booming forehand whenever possible.

But Federer was up to the task last night, taking the attack to Del Potro and not letting him dominate the baseline rallies.

Federer lost the first set in dramatic fashion but came back strongly to wrap up the match in 3 rather gruelling sets of Tennis.

The shot of the day for Federer came in the first set when he hit a scintillating running forehand passing shot to get the all important break(all though he wasn’t able to capitalise on it).

Federer was pegged back to the court from Del Potro, who had made a swift approach to the net, but Federer managed to dish out a rip-roaring forehand to leave Del Potro helpless at the net.
